Your Favorite New NYC Routine

Monday morning used to feel like wearing a coat that shrank in the wash. Everything on, all at once, too tight.

That was before the routine.

Now Monday starts differently. Not because the week is less busy. Because I arrive at it differently.

The Routine

Sunday afternoon at Lore. This is the anchor. High-heat sauna -- thirty minutes, maybe more if there is an Aufguss ceremony scheduled. Then the cold plunge. Sixty seconds of something that feels like the opposite of anxiety. Alert. Present. The world exists again, in full resolution.

Then the rest. This is what I didn't expect: the rest is the good part. Lying in a robe with nothing to do, no phone, no timer. The body still moving through the consequences of heat and cold. This is what replenishment actually feels like.

Multiple rounds. Two, sometimes three. The session takes seventy minutes, maybe ninety. I come out with something that feels like clarity but heavier -- more embodied, more grounded.

It Changes Monday

Something happens when you end the weekend with a real reset instead of a last-season-show marathon. Monday morning feels like the beginning of something rather than the end of something else.

It Changes Sleep

When you do a sauna session in the late afternoon or evening, the post-sauna drop in core temperature mimics the natural pre-sleep state. Sleep comes faster. Sleep goes deeper. You wake in the morning without the usual lag.

It Changes Social Life

The regulars at Lore are a community now. I know people by name who I never formally met. We showed up for the same thing enough times that we became familiar. The Aufguss ceremonies are when this is most true -- a group of people, some known and some not, sharing a ritual together.

This is not wellness networking. It is just coming back to the same place because it works.
